Advice

Perhaps the most important thing we can offer is just good old advice. Really. No charge. Happy to talk about it for a few (say 15) minutes. A lot of the time these conversations go like “hmm that sounds like an interesting idea. I bet you could do it for so much with so many people in so many months. Of course, it sounds pretty familiar, have you heard about this that and the other? If you do decide to do this you should definitely talk to so and so and him and her. ”

Workshops & Seminars

We give a number of workshops as (generally) half day events. Topics include: Creative synthesis, design methods, paper prototyping and wizard of oz experimentation, psychology and implicit cues, product design, lifecycle design, the future of craft, spatial application design, critical thinking in applied philosophy, casual evaluation and innovation. These events tend to be ‘hands on’ and best serve a classroom sized audience. The goal is to explore both current interests and long-term strategies for innovation, research and design - leaving behind both designs and design tools. The fee for this varies, depending on the nature of the engagement and the engager - travel and materials, however, must be covered. Please note that availability is limited.

Talks & Keynotes

We’re happy to lend our experience to things like conference lectures, keynotes, internal events, kick-offs or inspirational big picture messages. These kind of presentations really need to be less than one hour long (a half an hour is a surprisingly good amount of time) - of course, any Q&A or discussion could be quite a bit longer.

The things we can talk about vary a little bit by collaborative member, but includes things like: innovation, creativity, research and meta-research, education (in a broad sense), transparency - particularly in the design and creation process, experimentation (ranging from use as a design tool, to formal evaluation, to casual human behavior), design, art and engineering (at the same time), broad philosophical issues concerning the public good and future trends. The fee for this varies, depending on the nature of the engagement and the engager - travel, however, must be covered. Please note that availability is limited.

Matthew is the Director of the Collaborative. He writes rarely, and that makes him sad.
