“High” Quality Research takes High School level students and puts them in a University level research environment. The results with a number of case studies and pilots continues to confirm that high school students possess both the drive and the technical skill that put them on part with undergraduate research assistants, at least in some respects.
“These students may not have the technical knowledge that an undergraduate might have, but in many ways they make up for it with their motivations and appreciation for learning new things“, says Matthew Hockenberry, Director of the Collaborative. “They haven’t quite made up their mind about what they might want to study. This gives them more flexibility than a declared undergraduate and gives us the chance to get them interested in Academic research early.”
The Collaborative plans to continue with the program and branch out to include a larger number and variety of students.
