Home Energy International

The spherical Energy Ball, created by Schoondijke-based Home Energy International, relies on the Venturi effect to accelerate wind velocity as air moves through the curved blades of the rotor.  The turbine’s shape essentially constricts air, accelerating the air that moves through the device while creating an area of low pressure that draws more air into the turbine.  This design allows the turbine operate more efficiently than prop-style turbines, generating power in lower wind speeds.

While more efficient that traditional turbines of comparable size, the Energy Ball has also attracted attention for its form.  In an interview with MSNBC, the company’s marketing manager, Erik Aurik, said that customers found the design (”it looks like an art piece”) a selling point.
