Stanford University doctoral student Daniel Steinbock created TagCrowd to provide a simple, usercentric tool for examining word frequencies in websites or downloaded documents. The application turns the information into text clouds–visually-pleasing images that quickly group core concepts and stylistic traits. While acknowledging the potential for the tool’s use by artists and poets, Steinbock hopes that it will open new avenues of academic and corporate research, allowing companies to explore how they are perceived by the wider world and giving scholars the ability to quickly synthesize and survey written information.
