Amsterdam-based artist Joost van Santen created the online Museum of Light and Daylight to explore the relationship between light and landscape, and the ways in which the interaction of the two inspire design. Daylighting and the alteration of natural light are integral parts of van Santen’s works–seen in the image below–which rely on the movement of shadows and color-shifting skylights to redefine space over the course of the day.
The Museum of Light and Daylight examines the artist’s contextual, subjective responses to natural light. Short comments by van Santen give the location of each set of images, and often explore the reaction evoked by the scenes or the role of environmental factors, such as air pollution and artificial lighting. Through the museum, van Santen hopes to convey the effects of sudden impressions–instances of perception that provide inspiration or modify awareness.
