Green Collar Vets connects veterans with job training and employment opportunities related to sustainable development and alternative energy.  The group encourages participants to use GI Bill funding to enroll in vocational education programs related to green industries and provides a job board and networking information for openings, especially in Texas.

Green Collar Vets hopes to build on the legacy of the GI Bill, which broadened educational opportunities for individual veterans and led a shift in American society.  The original program, operating in conjunction with a federal housing subsidy and other benefits for veterans returning from World War II, led to a dramatic expansion of the middle class and the opening of higher education–especially for African Americans and members of economic minorities.  This idea, which blended individual improvement with a vision of larger social change, inspired the creators of Green Collar Vets.
