The Computer History Simulation Project offers a collaborative forum for people interested in the evolution of computer hardware and software. The group seeks to create freeware simulations of historic hardware platforms, which will be available on the Internet along with appropriate software. Beyond this core goal, the project is developing a bibliography of articles related to the history of computers and issues raised by reconstruction and simulation efforts, as well as a photo exhibit of systems by the Digital Equipment Corporation, Honeywell, IBM, and others.
The program represents the efforts to hobbyists with backgrounds in computer science, designers fond of their creations, and corporations eager to understand their own roles in the past–a collective approach to history that balances the talents and resources of the contributors.
