An exhibition supported by the Smithsonian Institution and the Washington Project for the Arts in the 1990s used seminal titles in science writing as the inspiration for works that re-imagined the text, illustrations, and core concepts as visual narratives. The Science and Artist’s Book project invited artists to create pieces exploring the Heralds of Science collection of the Dibner Library.  The books that emerged allowed viewers to examine the connection between creativity and research, as well as the legacy of science in cultural social memory and imagination.
