UNESCAP logoThe UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) will hold a conference in Bangkok at the end of this month to explore the role of information technology in community and economic development.  Through the creation of telecenters, UNESCAP and the UN Development Account hope to create pools of shared knowledge for disadvantaged communities.

The conference follows a meeting in August 2007 in which UNESCAP discussed a more detailed application of regional knowledge networks.  Participants examined the possibility of creating ”e-business” centers for local agricultural cooperatives, allowing women to share information about entrepreneurship and marketing.
