The first anniversary issue of Good Magazine includes a graphic representation of the political power held by women throughout the world. “Girl Power” presents the information in an oddly pixelated composite portrait, with the prominence of each leader reflecting the number of people she governs. Each square represents one million people, giving German Chancellor Angela Merkel most of the face’s left side and Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller an area of the right cheek.
The creative composite makes its point subtly but well: despite more than a century of progress and the significance of events such as the election of Michelle Bachelet (a symbol of democracy and reform after years of military dictatorship), only ten women serve as heads of state.
