Worst Places in the World combines Google Earth images with well-researched, insightful commentary on some of the globe’s most unpleasant issues.  The site documents environmental racism, conflict, and the spread of invasive species among other topics, relying on satellite images to provide a macro-level overview that was unavailable to past generations of decision-makers.

Other groups have used this technique, such as Appalachian Voices’s campaign against mountaintop-removal mining, but Worst Places in the World provides a much broader view of human interaction with the environment, giving readers thumbnail introductions to a wide variety of issues and regions often overlooked by the media.
