Manhattan

Searchscapes: Manhattan presents a conceptual map of the city by layering data over the physical and architectural terrain. Juliana Sato Yamashita, the artist behind the site, used internet search results for particular addresses to “compare representations of the city’s ‘physical spaces’ and ‘information spaces.’” Basing the height of the virtual buildings on the number of search results, Yamashita builds a cityscape based on information, creating towers comprised of solely of data that reflect the connections and disparities between the two spaces she describes.
